Operate an elevating work platform (SL) in Victoria

This course describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform. This is a hands on course for  appropriate for those working in operational roles.

Operate Elevating Work Platform under 11 metres teaches the skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

• Course study materials will be issued at the time of booking to allow time to complete the requirements prior to the course commencement;
• Students are required to complete some pre-reading and complete a workbook before they undertake the face to face sessions at AWFTC;
• For students with some industry experience operating EWP this involves approximately 6 hours of pre-reading. For students with no or minimal industry experience operating a forklift approximately 8 hours of pre-reading.

Topics covered in the Forklift Licence course:

• Acts and Regulations which affect how you work;
• Using different types of forklift trucks with a range of fuel/power sources;
• Inspecting the site and the forklift (including pre-start, planning, post-start and post-operational checks);
• Forklift attachments and controls;
• Data plates/load charts;
• Load centre and Centre of Gravity;
• Travel speed and visibility;
• Safe operating techniques & exercises (including lifting, lowering and positioning loads correctly; stacking into racks, stacks, containers and truck trays; travelling with and without loads; travelling on ramps/slopes);
• Safe shutdown and parking;
• Safety of other personnel.

1. Must provide one primary proof of photo ID (Keypass, Passport, Australian Drivers Licence);
2. Applicants must be aged 18;
3. Basic English, literacy and numeracy skills at a level sufficient to read and interpret workplace documentation;
4. Must have the physical capacity to undertake the practical training and assessment components.

If you are on a visa, you must be legally allowed to train with AWFTC without breaching your visa conditions. Any
course undertaken by a student visa holder, whether it is a primary course or additional study, must be registered on
CRICOS. Only a CRICOS registered provider can deliver courses to overseas students on student visas. AWFTC is not
a CRICOS provider.

In additon to getting a licence to operate a forklift in Victoria, you may upgrade your qualification to be a Nationally Recognised Training. RIIHAN301E Operate an elevating work platform (SL)

If you are undertaking Nationally Recognised Training you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) that gives you access to your online USI account that contains all your nationally recognised training records.

The main benefit of the USI is that you will have easy access to your training records and results throughout your life.

This is an entry level credential and can be used to contribute to other nationally recognised qualifications in Road Transport or similar (including, but not limited to, Certificate II in Driving Operations, Certificate II in Waste Management, Certificate III in Timber Building Products Supply, Certificate IV in Gas Supply Industry Operations).
